Sivarajah Natarajan was born in 1967. Sivarajah Natarajan received his degree in Fine Art at Malaysian Institute of Art in 1992. He is the curator, technical director and lighting and set designer for Sutra performances.
He held his solo exhibition Dance of Forever at The Artist’s Studio, Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam (2002). His awards include Best Set Design, BOH Cameroonian Annual Award (2005), Best Lighting Design Award, BOH Cameroonian Annual Award (2010), and a special award from Astro Vanaavil for his dedication, professionalism and vital contribution (2014).
Tribute to Concubine I, II, III, IV, V (2019)
These artworks were created during the collaboration of Art Ipoh 2019. Sivarajah was invited to display a new art installation inspired an old hotel located in Tin Alley, Ipoh. Known as ‘The Rex’, the hotel was famous for their brothel activities and usage of opium den. At the time, the tile-based game, Mahjong was commonly played at The rex for leisure and it certainly was addictive due to the gambling interest. Hence, these artworks were tributed to the concubines and beritage of The Rex which was patronised by the tin miners once upon a time Currently, Tin Alley has transformed into a popular hangout for tourists.
